The prostate is a golf ball sized male gland that is actually one organ composed of thirty to fifty tiny glands. The outside layer of the gland is made up of fibrous tissue.
The prostate gland is found underneath the bladder and in front of the rectum. It surrounds the urethra which is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the penis.
Diagnosis
While many men with BPH do not have symptoms the most common symptoms involve problems with urination. This results from bladder dysfunction and the narrowing of the urethra. It may cause difficultly in starting urination. It may also produce a weak stream of urine or completely make you unable to urinate. Loss of bladder control may even cause you to urinate at times when you did not intend.
There may be a leak or dribbling of urine, especially after urinating. You may also experience a strong or sudden urge to urinate with frequent occurrences, especially at night. Your bladder may be able to not empty all of the way and there may be pain when you urinate and/or have blood in your urine.
Treatment
Treatments are individual and will vary depending on the extent of your condition, your symptoms, and your other medical conditions. Treatments can range from monitoring your condition, making lifestyle changes, medications, or surgery. In mild cases Doctors may choose to simply monitor the symptoms.
Cold temperatures and a lack of physical activity have know to make symptoms worse. You should stay warm and exercise regularly. You should focus on relaxation because nervousness has been known
